Original story: You might not remember, but before it bit the dust the PSP was due to get its own version of Bethesda’s sprawling RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Dubbed The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion, the game wasn’t a direct port of Bethesda’s console hit, but rather a more linear spin-off based in the same world, featuring many of the same core mechanics.
According to a write-up by Unseen64, the game would’ve featured a hub world — where players could interact with NPCs, purchase supplies, and generally kit out their hero — and several larger explorable areas spread throughout Tamriel, where quests and combat would take place.
Despite being in development at Climax Group London for over two years, Travels was eventually canned. No official reasons were ever given, but Unseen64 believes a combination of budgeting issues and unforeseen development hurdles were to blame.
Unfortunately, only a few screenshots of the game were ever made public, so it was impossible to how much progress the studio had made.
Now, however, a NeoGAF user has managed to obtain footage of Travels in action, which has since been uploaded to preservation group Past to Present Online’s YouTube channel. The video (above) apparently shows build footage from January 2007 running on a PSP Go.
